Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker

The CAIB Program

The Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program is a professional development course of study designed specifically for insurance brokers by insurance brokers. The program consists of four courses pertaining to personal lines, commercial lines as well as brokerage management skills. Each course in this four-volume course culminates in a national examination. Upon successful completion of the four examinations, eligible candidates are awarded the nationally recognized professional designation "CAIB".

CAIB Benefits

Participating in the CAIB program provides formal insurance knowledge fundamental to insurance brokers. By developing specialized skills participants ensure that their clients receive necessary insurance expertise.

Personal confidence is also major benefit of the CAIB program. All graduates eligible to hold the CAIB designation are recognized at our annual awards function and pictures published in the St. John's Telegram. Graduates also receive credits towards the CIP program of the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Study Options

There are three possible methods for students to choose from: Evening Discussion Groups, Correspondence and Immersion Classes.

Evening Discussion Groups

Evening Discussion Groups begin in September for the December Examinations and again in January for the May examinations. These groups meet one day per week for twelve consecutive weeks and are lead by a CAIB graduate. Evening Discussion Groups are organized where at least eight registrations are received for a course in any one location.

Correspondence

Students receive a text, study guide, practice exam and Student Course Guide. They are also provided with a tutor to assist them with any questions on the course material and marking of assignments.

Students can register for this method of self-study at any time during the year. At the time of registration students are required to identify which exam date they intend to challenge. As the registration fee includes your exam fee, students must attempt the examination on the date they select.

Immersion

These week-long courses are offered occasionally when sufficient numbers warrant.
