The Insurance Brokers Association of Newfoundland & Labrador offers two levels of membership.  The General/Full is for Brokerages ONLY.  Individuals may apply for membership if they meet the criterial listed below.

All applications must be approved by IBAN Board of Directors. Once approved you will be sent an email confirming your membership status.

0 - $499,999 $1,200.00
$500,000 - $999,999 $1,750.00
$1,000,000 - $2,499,999 $4,800.00
$2,500,000 - $4,999,999 $8,200.00
$5,000,000 and more $11,300.00

A General/Full Member (voting member) must meet the following criteria:

  1. They have a permanent office in the Province of Newfoundland;
  2. They are the holder of an agent’s or brokers’ license issued by the Superintendent of Insurance and valid for categories of insurance other than insurance of a person and carry on business in the Province as an insurance Agent and Broker;
  3. They have submitted a membership or renewal application with applicable fees
  4. They are not a bank or credit union, nor owned or controlled by either or both. For the purposes of this subsection, owned or controlled includes:
    1. individually or collectively owning 50% of the brokerages’ voting shares;
    2. directing the mind and will of the brokerage;
    3. establishing business direction; or
    4. exercising daily control or directing the placement of business.
    5. finds appropriate market and general insurance products for clients;
    6. manages the placement of business;
    7. provides insurance advice and claims advice;
    8. is the intermediary between insurer and customer;

Individual - $125/year

An Individual Member (non-voting member)

  1. is an individual working in the property and casualty insurance (“P&C”) industry;
  2. is not employed with a General Member insurance brokerage;
  3. is not an owner of a non-member brokerage eligible for General Membership;
  4. has successfully completed all four modules of the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program and are entitled to use the CAIB designation granted by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC);
  5. has submitted a membership or membership renewal application along with any applicable fees for approval and has received approval thereof;
